Speak Out: Where would Rush move? Or you?

Posted by FriendO on Wed, Mar 10, 2010, at 1:30 PM:

I'm serious:

http://www.thedailybeast.com/cheat-sheet/item/limbaugh-ill-leave-us/wingnuts/

I have to know: Liberals can easily to move to any number of highly-developed nations where they can assimilate into a similar culture and lifestyle.

What other first-world nation out there is MORE conservative than the United States?

Please feel free to go. You need not stick around on my account.

Some of us love our homeland.

  • Thanks for answering the question, Mr. Wheels

  • You are welcome.

  • I seem to recall that Alec Baldwin was going to leave if President Bush won a second term. President Bush did and Mr. Baldwin didn't.

  • I'll say again:

can someone please tell me what industrialized country out there is more "conservative", in the ideological sense, than the United States.

-- Posted by FriendO on Wed, Mar 10, 2010, at 2:52 PM
  • I know Shapley, a pity he didn't move.

  • FriendO,

I have no idea. I haven't been looking for a place to relocate. I love living here... that is why I object to these changes for the worse that the far left wants to institute.

I would love to go back to the days when you could look a man in the eye, shake hands and not fear turning your back on him. That is the kind of change that I would love to see.

Malaysia, perhaps. Indonesia, probably less so. India is quite conservative, and is an industrialized nation, if you don't agree that Malaysia and Indonesia fit the bill. I wouldn't consider Costa Rica to be 'industrialized', but I assume Rush's threat to go there is what sparked this thread.

  • I've chosen Costa Rico, mostly for the winter months. Rest of the year the USA, particularly Spring and Fall. The mountains for Summer. I remember the hot, sultry 1940s summers without air conditioning in Cape Girardeau. Of course, we could escape for a few hours in air conditioned comfort at the Rialto, the Broadway, or the Esquire. And then we had to step back out into the heat!

Wasn't there an Orpheum over on Good Hope? Never went there for some reason lost in the mists of time.

  • From Merriam-Webster's definition of "Conservatism":

"disposition in politics to preserve what is established b : a political philosophy based on tradition and social stability, stressing established institutions, and preferring gradual development to abrupt change"

By that definition, Cuba, China, and probably Mexico fit the bill. Their philosphies differ greatly from American conservatism, but they are the established order and, for the most part, are adamantly opposed to change.

  • I can in no way fathom how anyone who considers Rush Limbaugh so irrelevant remains so fixated on what he says or does.

-- Posted by RA on Wed, Mar 10, 2010, at 3:08 PM
  • Rush is moot. This is an exercise for those who worry about the US becoming too "socialist" for their taste and what their "second choice" would be.

I would hardly consider Malaysia, Indonesia, or India first-world nations in which I could enjoy similar Bill of Rights levels of personal freedom, but that's my opinion.

Let's stick to the American concept of conservative: Guns God and whatever the third one is. (no) Government?

I honestly can't think of another country with a similar combination of personal freedom and individual wealth that does not have a major welfare-state component within either its governance or economy.

  • Well, suppose this is as good a time and place to make my little announcement.

I've closed the deal today on selling this huge old place and signed a lease on an apartment not in this town. Should be finished with the move by April 1. Then I'm off traveling and don't know when I'll be back. So I'll be out of circulation for a while which should be joyous news to the liberal contingent.

  • Well, I also have a laptop equipt with an Internet Wireless card. But I could never get the damned thing to work by myself.

My friend Laura was very computer logical asnd not a very good teacher. So consequently I'm out of luck out on the road. It works fine here in the house, but won't be here much longer.

I must admit it does cause a wasrm glow to know one will be missed (for a while).

-- Posted by voyager on Thu, Mar 11, 2010, at 8:30 PM
  • Voyager,

You wuld be missed, but since we don't accept that, you will just have to get that thing working. I am using an air card right now. I have used it in at least 5 or 6 different locations since I left home on Dec 28. Depending on the provider you are using, take it to their local office and get them to help you.

I was at my brother's place a couple of years ago when mine quit on a Saturday evening. Much talk with people on the phone on Saturday night, Sunday and Monday morning with lots of do this and do that with no results. I was getting nowhere fast. I picked everything up, drove to the sales office in Cape and the little lady that waited on me had me up and running in about 30 minutes. The SIM card had gone screwey and she replaced it and reprogrammed and I was in business.

  • Wheels is traveling and still is on here. That shows it can't be that hard. :)

  • Now ya'll leave Ike alone, I'll get to him in time. I've been working on our good friend Caddyman. We see definite progress with him.

Now Ike, you just watch your mouth and that word "Liar". I've been called a "liar" today by two scumbag slammers today. They're scumbags, you are not.

By the way, Rush Limbaugh is living in that hellhole known as Palm Beach. He's welcome to it.

  • If voyager hadn't lied about his IQ, he wouldn't have been called a liar. 172 IQ my a$$.

  • Voyager, Any direction of travel chosen. I'm guessing southwest.

You could start a "Where's Voy" blog.

-- Posted by Old John on Thu, Mar 11, 2010, at 10:35 PM
  • Old John, now I don't know about that. I might just be doing something I might not want noised about...like a visit to the eqivilent of the Mustang Ranch.

Direction? I'd like to do the Pacific Coast Highway again and the Monterrey Pennisula. Then up through the Pacific Northwest and the Olympic Pennisula. Then up through Canada until I run out of paved road! Gosh, that might take me as far north as Nome, Alaska! That would be overdoing a good thing, don't ya think?

  • I use AT&T at the lake one weekend and gave it back. It was like having dial up. Some of my neighbors said Version was better in Marshal county.

A friend there has satellite in his RV. It is faster than cable but is a little pricey.

-- Posted by Wiff on Thu, Mar 11, 2010, at 11:13 PM

    Wiff,

Had AT&T for a few years but switched to Verizon A couple of years ago now. Much faster and I feel better coverage. I use a router with it for wireless, so wife and I can both use it. Helps to keep the peace.

Thought about satellite but when you are parked under a tree for three months, not good.

  • I think sending Rush off would be a great use of my tax dollars. Seriously, I wouldn't mind using part of my dollars shipping him out.

-- Posted by almighty on Fri, Mar 12, 2010, at 9:52 AM
  • Paying to ship Rush off would only be scratching the surface. There is a far greater number of folks I would like to see shipped out, but I think contributing something for each one might break the bank.

  • I thought I heard Rush say that he would go to Costa Rica for health care if the current healthcare reform plan is passed and enacted. Nothing like avoiding socialized medicine by running to a place with....socialized medicine.
