He gave them heck over their long hair and playing rock and roll so who did they name their band after?

I believe 'Lynyrd Skynard' was a derogatory nickname given him to him back in school. We all had those for strict teachers, didn't we?

They made peace in the end, though. He probably found it flattering, in a backwards kind of way.

I think his name was actually Leonard Skinner.

He was 77 years old. He died at home in Florida.
